Jean-Michel Basquiat is more than a Hip Hop punch line

Within the last year or so you have probably heard Jay-Z, Nas and more recently Swizz Beatz in "That Oprah" (Which can be found in our playlist to your right)mention Basquiat in their rhymes. But This cat is much bigger than a line in a verse. Coming up as a middle class kind from Brooklyn he was encouraged to paint and embrace the arts by his Mother. Basquiat, even with a support from his family decided to drop out of high school, move in to the city and began doing graf in lower Manhattan.
He began to play music with a band called Grey and also appeared in Blondie's video "Rapture" as a replacement for DJ Grandmaster Flash when he was a no-show.
After the Village Voice caught wind of his graf and ran pieces on his "SAMO" tags Basquiat gained a little fame. He first started to gain real recognition as a true artist in June 1980, when he participated "The Times Square Show".
By 1982, Basquiat was showing regularly alongside Julian Schnabel, David Salle, Francesco Clemente and Enzo Cucchi, thus becoming part of a loose-knit group that art-writers, curators, and collectors would soon be calling the Neo-expressionist movement. He started dating an aspiring and then-unknown performer named Madonna in the fall of 1982. Unfortunately in 1988 Basquiat's (pictured below) life was cut short due to a drug overdose. The Tesla roadster Green finally becomes valet worthy
The lion share of Green/hybrid vehicles are not red carpet worthy and far from track burners. The team at Tesla motors has changed all that. The Tesla Roadster was introduce to the public in 2006. It was loaded with a Zero emission single gear electric drive system and a 0-60 time of :04 sec. Just to give you some perspective that is Lamborghini, Porsche and Ferrari territory.

The Polaroid PoGo: Fast forward on throwback technology
Andre 3000 is not going to have much to shake in a minute. The folks over at Polaroid stepped their tech game up and created the Polaroid-on-the-go or PoGo. The PoGo is a mini inkless printer (go figure) that utilize wireless technology to print digital pictures on the spot. It can be paired to you cellphone or your digital camera. Might be time to erase some of those incriminating photos out of your Nokia.

The folks over at Polaroid wrote the following:
Polaroid will bring instant photos into the digital age on Saturday, July 6, 2008, when its pocket-sized, inkless digital printer - Polaroid PoGo™ - launches at Best Buy stores (MSRP: $149). Polaroid PoGo™ will be available at Target stores nationwide July 20.
The Polaroid PoGo™ - short for Polaroid-on-the-go - prints full-color, 2-inch by 3-inch photos from cell phones via Bluetooth and from digital cameras via PictBridge.
Images are created in less than 60 seconds using ZINK Photo Paper™, a durable material that contains colorless cyan, yellow and magenta dye crystals, which are activated through heat pulses.
The ZINK Photo Paper™ is manufactured by ZINK Imaging and will retail for between 33 and 40 cents per print; 10-packs cost $3.99, while 30 packs cost $9.99
Dispose of the throw away bottle.
It's time to break up with your $2.00 water bottles from Walgreen's. check out some of these reusable options found on slate.com. If plastic is just your thing try the SEI flasks. They come in 9 oz and 16 oz sizes (I think). The cool thing about these bottles is that they look to good to throw out. Re-fill them and reuse them. No one will now that our clear SEI hip flask is filled with the finest refrigerator purified Detroit tap water.

Don't pack it, ship it*

So you hit LA and tore up Robertson. Hitting every boutique you could find. Now while you are standing in line to pay for that last pair of Chuck style Gucci boots with the big 'ol tongue you realize "I am screwed if I try to pack all this." Airlines got hip to the luggage game and are now (Save for Southwest, good looking out Southwest) are charging by the bag. The good folks over at Wired's travel blog Autopia did the math.
Check two bags and you're out $40. That's what you'll pay to have FedEx throw your luggage around, but you'll pay $35 using UPS and $34 to let the post office deal with it. The savings really kick in if you're a clothes' horse or you bought every souvenir you laid eyes on. Airlines will nail you for up to $140 if you've got three pieces of luggage, but the post office will charge you $55. FedEx will get it there (or back) for $60.
For sending just one bag you are probably going to loose out but if you really tore it down at Zara in SoHo. Shipping two or three bags back to your Pied-a-terre may save you some dough.
