Ryan Leslie in the studio
If you are not familiar with Ryan Leslie you may want to take a minute to get to know him. Last year he had a couple of very big records including "Diamond Girl" and this year he released another single record "Addiction". While quiet from a press standpoint the single was solid and sonically impressive.
Check out Ryan as he heads back into the studio to work on his follow-up to the unreleased "Just Right".

50 cent Money and Power reality show trailer
I don't know if it is going to be quality but I am betting it will going to make for some darn good TV. 50 cents "The Money and The Power" follows the same model made popular by The Donald and takes it to a place that is more gritty than "I want to work for Diddy".
The real question that comes to mind is who is going to populate the ad space and product placement. I think we will all be fed up with Vitamin water, Reebok and Mark Ecko brands after a show or two. Despite my critical statements I think the numbers are going to be there for 50 Cents "The Money and The Power" ... just as long as Kanye doesn't release a show on the same day.

Eminem is back with Relapse
As reported by AllHipHop.com
Hip-Hop star Eminem squashed rumors about his album title last night (October 15) and announced the album's official title: Relapse. The rapper debuted his track "I'm Having A Relapse" last night (October 15) live during the release party for his latest book The Way I Am in New York. The announcement puts other rumored titled like Empack and King Mathers to rest. Relapse, which is Eminem's highly anticipated sixth album, is due in stores sometime in 2008. In related news, Eminem has teamed with Nike's Jordan brand again, to create his own custom Jordan's. The Jordan 2, which is the rapper's favorite in the Air Jordan collection, is his second collaboration with Nike to create a custom sneaker. The limited edition sneaker is being produced by Eminem in different colorways than then original AJ2. The sneakers also come with handwritten lyrics from various Eminem song's on it. The rapper made 313 pairs in the limited edition run, as a tribute to Detroit, as 313 is the city's area code.

New Music - "Slaughter House" Joe Budden Feat. Joel Ortiz, Nino Bless, Crooked I & Royce da 5'9"
If you are a fan of lyricist you will truly appreciate this track. At over 7 minutes long the punch lines and word play are relentless but far from boring. I would quote a few lines for you but I don't want to ruin it for you. - Jamil Buie
Notorious: The film
The life and tragic death of Christopher Wallace is memorialized in this new release.

Trust me there is no nudity involved so no need to worry. Just a fun little insight in to the male and female dynamic when internet porn is involved.

A firm handshake and your "Government" Name.
Almost a year ago I had a conversation with my friend Corey Richardson and I told him. "Give it time. There will be a return of the firm handshake and using your Government name" . Well that time appears to have come to pass, at least in part. I am watching the Greenbay vs. Seattle game and Charles Woodson catches an interception and returns the ball for a couple of yards. After being tackled, he pops up and a funny thing happened. There was no dap, no pound, no "fun bunch" high five, just a firm hand shake from teammates. If I had Tivo I would have played it back a dozen times.
Now I enjoy football as much as the next guy but some of the end zone antics fans have to endure are just lame and far from creative others were just dumb like these CFL standouts...
and
See... not to hot. Now if you can bring it like Ocho Cinco or T.O. so be it hope you have the back account to back it up. But the civility and sportsmanship of the firm handshake is almost a double slap in the face to the opposing team. It's akin to saying not only did I just have my way with you I am gentleman and in the world of carbon copy shuck and jive I am okay with being unique.

The Blackberry Storm. It's like Vista on a phone is that good?

From National Business Review:
Research in Motion (RIM) has issued its response to Apple’s iPhone: the BlackBerry Storm.
The Storm is the latest in a stream of phones dominated by huge touchscreens, including the first Google Android phone, HTC’s G1 and Nokia’s 5800 XpressMusic.
Announced overnight in the US and Europe, the Storm has drawn immediate ooohs and ahhs for its design – but also bleats about its lack of wi-fi.
All Vodafone, all the time
In the US, Verizon Wireless (co-owned by Vodafone and Verizon) will be the BlackBerry Storm’s exclusive carrier, running the device on its EVDO network (that is, the same used by Telecom here). Vodafone will be the exclusive Storm bringer in Europe, where it’s releasing a HSDPA/3G Broadband version of the phone.
Vodafone New Zealand is announcing two BlackBerries today at 4pm. One will be the BlackBerry Bold – an incremental upgrade to the full QWERTY keyboard, widebody BlackBerry Curve, catering to RIM traditionalists, and sporting HSDPA/3G Broadband and wi-fi).
The second device is un-named but ... well, you join the dots. Check back to NBR.co.nz late afternoon for an update.
A third new BlackBerry contender, RIM’s first clamshell, the Pearl Flip will not see local release.
Storm rains on iPhone
Aside from its obvious support for BlackBerry’s famed “push” email (and its attendant monthly charges), the Storm has a couple of immediate advantages over the iPhone.
The Storm has a full HTML web browser, and supports the cut-and-paste so conspicuously lacking on Apple’s handset.
And while the Storm has almost the same dimensions as Apple’s smartphone, at 112.5 x 62.2 x 13.9 mm and 155g to the iPhone’s 115.5 x 62.1 x 12.3 mm and 133g. But although it’s slightly thicker and heavier, the Storm’s striking aesthetics have drawn immediate rave reviews, plus comments that it feels more robust.
The Storm also has the still camera advantage at 3.2 megapixels to the iPhone’s 2mP, and the video-shooting capability the iPhone lacks.
Both handsets share GPS and Bluetooth capability.
In keeping with BlackBerry’s new enthusiasm for lifestyle apps, Facebook’s mobile software is included, plus MediaSync, a cheeky piece of software for shifting your iTunes collection onto your RIM handset.
iPhone advantages
Why no wi-fi? Co-CEO of the Canadian-based RIM, Mike Lazaridis, points out, correctly, that wireless Ethernet is a battery-killer. But it’s still become a connectivity feature cherished by many smartphone users in an age when cellular data charges are ruinous in most countries, making wireless connection to a hotspot or computer attractive for many file transfers – or even the likes of Skype.
The Storm’s screen, at 3.25-inches, is slightly larger than the Nokia 5800 but a shade smaller than the iPhone’s 3.5-inches.
And like the Nokia 5800, the Storm also lacks iPhone’s multitouch features like the “pinch” for zooming in on a photo.
BlackBerry adds a new “confirm” tap for any gesture, which Lazaridis says was added in response to gripes from iPhone users that they often inadvertently selected or swiped the wrong thing onscreen. Whether this will lead to error-free or annoyingly slower tapping hangs in the balance. Initial reports have it that the Storm’s “ClickThrough” approach takes some getting used to, but is very accurate, and also fast once you’ve acclimatised.

New Music - "It's over" John Legend Feat K.T.L.V.D.
John Legend is back to the winning formula with his latest album "Evolve". While not a scheduled single the track below is working for me. As choosing season (fall) in Chicago kicks into high gear this may quickly become the upgrade anthem. Remember summer fling< fall cuddle buddy. Don't get caught on the wrong side of the equation.

Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart is a Purveyor of Cool
Cook County Illinois Sheriff Tom Dart is a man with principal and good moral judgement making him a true Purveyor of Cool.
CNN
In an op-ed piece in the Chicago Sun-Times explaining his decision, Sheriff Tom Dart said that "too many times," his deputies have arrived at foreclosed properties to find tenants who have indeed paid their rent. But the property owner hadn't paid the mortgage, leading banks to foreclose on the property.
That's what happened to families living in a building in Albany Park, Ill. "I don't think this is fair because we don't know what happened," said one woman facing the prospect of eviction. "We were paying rent every month."
Dart faulted the banks for the "mess," saying they have a legal responsibility to find out who's living in a building before taking any foreclosure action.
"We won't be doing the banks' work for them anymore," Dart wrote. "We won't surprise tenants with an eviction order intended for their landlord."
The New York Times reports that the department was on track to carry out 4,700 foreclosures this year, close to triple what it was just two years ago. The paper also reports that other sheriffs and judges around the country are trying to slow down such foreclosure proceedings.
"I may be held in contempt of court over this," Dart wrote. "If that's the case, I'm willing to accept it though I believe most judges in Cook County share my desire to find a solution for this mess."

The disposable film festival
DFF Promo from Disposable Film Festival on Vimeo.
For all my budding directors out there visit the link and submit your film today.
From the site:
The Disposable Film Festival was created in 2007 to celebrate the artistic potential of disposable video: short films made on non-professional devices such as one-time use video cameras, cell phones, point and shoot cameras, webcams, computer screen capture software, and other readily available video capture devices. With people everywhere posting videos online, we felt the time was right to draw attention to the creative potential of this new mode of filmmaking. Far beyond its initial roles for video blogging and documentation, the DFF offers a forum to display how disposable media can be used for creative purposes. The DFF hosts screenings, competitions, and other events to showcase the best work within the disposable genre.

Take that one

In the hyperfast world we live in two words uttered by John McCain have become a cottage industry overnight. Long gone is the thought that no one was paying attention. The De-evolution of the would be town hall format drove both Senators to stray from the course but the Senator from Arizona's "That one" sealed the deal for many Americans...and spaked a few business deals for many others. Hours after the "That one" levied by McCain websites, T-shirts and bumper stickers popped up on-line.
While I won't go as far as some have and call the comment racially motivated. It was less than respectful. Think of it as calling Dr. Robert Jarvic "White coat guy" or Dr. Cornell West "Teach". Not cool.

Gmail Goggles
`Mail Goggles' might prevent e-mail regrets
By JESSICA MINTZ
SEATTLE (AP) — Here's the scenario: It's Friday night, and what began as an innocent happy-hour margarita morphed into a few pitchers. After all, those tacos were salty.
Bidding friends adieu, you jump in a cab, head home and decide a quick e-mail check is in order. And there it is: a message from your ex. Or your boss. Or that friend you're secretly mad at.
If you're the kind of person who types tipsy and regrets it in the morning, Google's "Mail Goggles," a new test-phase feature in the free Gmail service, might save you some angst.
The Goggles can kick in late at night on weekends. The feature requires you to solve a few easy math problems in short order before hitting "send." If your logical thinking skills are intact, Google is betting you're sober enough to work out the repercussions of sending that screed you just drafted.
And if you can't multiply two times five, you'll probably thank Google in the morning.
To activate Goggles, Gmail users should click the "Settings" link at the top of a Gmail page, then go to the "Labs" section.
There's no shame in admitting that sometimes you need a little extra help. Gmail engineer Jon Perlow designed Goggles with his own weaknesses in mind.
"Sometimes I send messages I shouldn't send. Like the time I told that girl I had a crush on her over text message. Or the time I sent that late night e-mail to my ex-girlfriend that we should get back together," he wrote when announcing Mail Goggles on a company blog.
The name is derived from the slang term "beer goggles," or the curious effect of alcohol on one's ability to see the true nature of that "cutie" at the other end of the bar.
But you can set up Mail Goggles to protect you from yourself at other emotionally vulnerable times — before your morning coffee, for example, or right after "Grey's Anatomy."

"Don't vote. Who gives a f*@k!"
REGISTER TO VOTE! THEN VOTE! I really don't care who you vote for or what you believe in. I do care that your opinion is heard and counted. Why? Because a month from now if I hear you whining on the train, griping in the bookstore, or espousing on how ignorant the american people are for electing Senator (your candidates rival here) in Starbucks I am going to ask you one simple question. "Did you vote?" If you say anything along the lines of "Nah i knew it was going to happen anyway" or "Man my vote doesn't count" on everything I love I will channel my inner King Leiondas and Spartan kick you through the nearest plate glass window. Yep, threats of violence. What? Are you disturbed by that? Oh you must not have noticed that those who came before you be it Pilgrim, Woman or ethnic minority all suffered for the right that you are casting aside. So yeah, it's that deep. Yeah, Spartan kick, Yeah, plate glass. So you can heed Diddy's old "Vote or die" call to action or my new mantra "Don't vote and shut the hell up" cause if you complain I'm bootin ya schmoove outta window. The choice is yours.
All jokes aside please register to vote today. Visit the site in the video and register. If you are not sure if you are registered visit your secretary of state and check your registration.

Chicago art worth saving
Chicago Art: 55th and Lake Park mural from Jamil Buie on Vimeo.
As far as major cites are concerned Chicago is an art lovers dream. There are countless public places to find works by known artisans. There are also some not so well know locations that a lot of Chicagoans pass everyday and rarely take notice of. The piece featured above is located at 55th and Lake Park in the Hyde Park neighborhood. It's in process of being restored with the help of the following volunteers.

Turn your iPhone into a router
Turning the Iphone into a Wireless Router from John Chow on Vimeo
One of the coolest feature of the 3G iPhone is the high speed, always on, Internet connection. Having a constant connection to the Internet is pretty much a must have for any Dot Com Mogul. The main problem with the iPhone is the screen is too small to do any serious Web surfing. Yes, it’s great for Twitter or checking up on emails but blogging from it is an exercise in frustration. Fortunately, there is a way to extend that 3G connection onto your laptop by turning your iPhone into a wireless router.
Ed Lau and I were at Kam Do today for lunch and decided to do a video showing how to tether your iPhone to your Macbook so your Macbook can surf the Internet using the iPhone’s 3G Internet connection. You can do this with a PC as well. However, there are more steps involved because Windows like to add more steps. The setup works amazingly well. Just don’t exceed the limits of your data plan or you may end up with a huge cell phone bill!

I got that Coosh (headphones)
The number one problem we ALL have with iPod headphones is the fact they sound like two tin cans. The next immediate problem is that the factory buds will not stay in your ears. It was like the folks at Apple made a supermodel with a good personality then put a mustache on her.
The team at Coosh have developed a new headphone that feature an optional in-line mike and a secure over ear design. While I can not see the product delivering the same sound as an in ear headphone or over ear cup style headphone, I do think they are a huge improvement over the factory flops.
Shoot over to the Coosh website and order a pair.

Nike Boulder AF1

Nike continues to use an array of fabrics and textures on its sneakers these days. The Bone/Black plaid is only used on the side panels and the heel of this Air Force One Premium. Usually, black and brown is a no-no; however, this mixture of a brown leather upper, black accents, and a brown swoosh blends very nicely. This AF1 is complemented by the original white midsole.
These sneakers have already been released to select retailers in Asia and Europe; however, they will not hit US retailers until November.
Get acquainted with Blue Tunes

Blue Tunes makes all your music available to you anywhere.
Ultra-simple and just released in beta, bT loads your music library onto its online database, then streams it back to you wherever you are, letting you mix on the fly the potent dancesanity of your "iPod Commercials" playlist. Set up an account, and blue's proprietary compression will cut upload times to seconds per track (those already in bT's database're skipped), so even sizeable collections will be fully catalogued within minutes -- or, the time it takes T.I. to release seven new must-have tracks. The first GB of storage is free, but upping your limit to anything from 5 to 40GBs only costs a few dollars per month.
In the coming weeks, blue aims to support all file types (currently mp3-only); eventually they plan to allow you to download your tracks, backup that'll protect your collection from terrorism by angry friends who wish you'd stop blasting John Ashcroft's "Let the Eagle Soar".
